Beverly Wenger-Trayner

[EN] Beverly Wenger-Trayner is a social learning theorist and consultant known for over twenty years for her work with international organizations including cross-boundary processes and the use of new technologies. Brought up in Kenya, living most of her life in Portugal, with ten-year stints in the UK and the US, she is a cross-boundary person herself. Once an activist for international equitable development, her passion has matured into an intellectual drive to help people and institutions get better at making a difference. Beverly is co-founder of the Social Learning Lab, in Sesimbra, Portugal. The purpose of the lab is to host workshops and events for people across the world and to become a wellspring of ideas, writing and connections for developing social learning capability at scale. Learning to make a difference, Systems convening, and a Guidebook for communities of practice are their three most recent publications.

[PT] Beverly Wenger-Trayner é especialista em teorias de aprendizagem social e consultora na mesma área. É conhecida há mais de vinte anos pelo seu trabalho em organizações transnacionais, incluindo processos transfronteiriços e a utilização de novas tecnologias. Cresceu no Quénia, mas viveu a maior parte da sua vida em Portugal, com passagem de dez anos pelo Reino Unido e Estados Unidos. Inicialmente foi ativista no âmbito do desenvolvimento equitativo internacional e essa sua paixão evoluiu no sentido de ajudar pessoas e instituições a melhorarem as suas capacidades. Beverly é cofundadora do Social Learning Lab (Laboratório de Aprendizagem Social), em Sesimbra, Portugal. O objetivo do laboratório é realizar workshops e eventos para pessoas de todo o mundo e tornar-se uma fonte de ideias, textos e conexões para desenvolver a capacidade de aprendizagem social em grande escala. "Learning to Make a Difference" (Aprender a Fazer a Diferença), "Systems Convening" (Sistemas de Convocação), e "Guidebook for Communities of Practice" (Guia de Comunidades de Prática) são as suas três publicações mais recentes.

Etienne Wenger-Trayner

[EN] Etienne Wenger-Trayner is a globally recognized thought leader in the field of social learning. He has authored and co-authored seminal books: Situated Learning, where the term “community of practice” was coined; Communities of Practice, which lays out a theory of social learning; Cultivating Communities of Practice, for practitioners in organizations; Digital Habitats, about the use of technology. His more recent books are coauthored with Beverly Wenger-Trayner. Learning in Landscapes of Practice expands the learning theory beyond single communities. Learning to make a difference proposes a new framework for understanding and supporting social learning. Systems Convening describes cross-boundary social learning leadership. Communities of Practice Guidebook provides practical guidance. Etienne is sought-after consultant. He is also one of the most cited authors in the social sciences and recipient of two honorary doctorates. To further develop social-learning theory, practice, and leadership, Etienne and Beverly recently founded the Social Learning Lab in Sesimbra, Portugal.

É autor e coautor de livros influentes e inspiradores: Situated Learning (Aprendizagem Situada), onde o termo “comunidade de prática” foi cunhado; Communities of Practice (Comunidades de Prática), que estabelece uma teoria de aprendizagem social; Cultivating Communities of Practice (Cultivando Comunidades de Prática), para profissionais de organizações; Digital Habitats (Habitats Digitais), sobre a utilização da tecnologia. Os seus livros mais recentes são escritos em coautoria com Beverly Wenger-Trayner. Learning in Landscapes of Practice (Aprender em Paisagens de Prática) expande a teoria da aprendizagem para além das comunidades individuais. Learning to Make a Difference (Aprender a Fazer a Diferença) propõe um novo quadro conceptual para compreender e apoiar a aprendizagem social. Para reforçar o desenvolvimento da teoria da aprendizagem social, da prática e da liderança, Etienne e Beverly fundaram recentemente o Laboratório de Aprendizagem Social em Sesimbra, Portugal.
